Two armed teenagers were on Tuesday morning, November 17, arrested after hijacking a bus along Uhuru Highway.
A statement by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) indicated that the two boys, aged 16 and 17, were arrested after members of the public raised alarm.
The detectives also recovered a pistol and other weapons from the two.
"Two robbery suspects have this morning been arrested by detectives along Uhuru highway following numerous complaints from members of the public.
"A pistol with five rounds of ammunition, a military knife, a mobile phone and several sim cards, cash in various denominations from different nations were recovered," read the statement in part.
DCI further disclosed that the two hijacked the bus while escaping from the detectives.
"The two suspects aged 16 and 17 years fled and hastily boarded a public service vehicle when they noticed that they were being pursued.
"The vehicle was however intercepted and the suspects who had been reported to be attacking motorists and other road users arrested," added the statement.
The two are awaiting to be arraigned in court.
A report by the National Police Service (NPS) in early November 2020 indicated that carjackers are known to target public service vehicles, mostly buses and matatus, and had even earmarked some of the carjackings hotspots.
Police reports indicate that carjackers operate in a complex ring, often involving informers who may have taken time to study the target.
The hotspots in Nairobi include Noonkopir (Daraja next to Saitoti Hospital) in Kitengela, around Kiserian Primary, Kisaju road stretch in Isinya, Railway line area (Junction of the Nairobi-Nakuru Highway and the stretch to Kikuyu town), Mashimoni (Marimari) road in Kiambu and Limuru road stretch between the town and the Nakuru Highway.
