Weatherman Warns of Increase in Rainfall Across the Country

The Kenya Meteorological Department (MET) on Monday, November 23, warned Kenyans of heavy rainfall that is set to pound most parts of the country.

According to the weatherman, rainfall intensity is likely to increase to more than 30mm in 24 hours from Tuesday, November 24 to Monday, November 30.

In an advisory, the Meteorological Department revealed some of the regions in the country that are set to be affected by the imminent rains.

"The areas likely to be affected include Southeastern lowlands, the Highlands West and East of the Rift Valley and the Lake Victoria Basin regions.

"Some parts of the Northeast and the Northwest are likely to experience strong easterly to south-easterly winds of more than 25 knots," read the statement in part.

Nairobi, Nyandarua, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang'a, Kiambu, Meru, Embu, and Tharaka-Nithi counties are scheduled for increased showers.

The pattern includes cloudy early mornings with light rains and afternoon showers are likely to occur over few to several places during the forecast period.

Evening and night showers are likely to occur in a few places. Rainfall intensity is likely to increase to more than 30mm in 24 hours.

Counties set to be affected in the Western and Rift Valley region include Siaya, Kisumu, Homabay, Migori, Kisii, Nyamira, Trans Nzoia, Baringo, Uasin Gishu, Elgeyo-Marakwet, Nandi, Laikipia, Nakuru, Narok, Kericho, Bomet, Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma and Busia counties.

In the above counties, mornings are likely to have light rains occurring over a few places. Afternoon showers and thunderstorms are likely to occur over several places. Evening and night showers are likely to occur over a few places.

Turkana, West Pokot and Samburu counties stand to be affected in the Northwest region with mornings are likely to be generally sunny with a chance of light rains occurring over a few places.

In North-Eastern Marsabit, Mandera, Wajir, Garissa and Isiolo counties will experience an increase in rainfall.

The weather patterns will see mornings likely to be generally sunny with a chance of light rains occurring over a few places. Afternoon showers are likely to occur over a few places. Evening and night showers are likely to occur over a few places during the forecast period.

Kajiado, Kitui, Makueni, Machakos and Taita Taveta counties are to be affected in the Southeastern lowlands region.

There will be occasional light rains which are likely to occur during morning hours over a few places. Afternoon and evening to night showers are also expected to occur over few to several places during the forecast period.

The Coastal Strip of Mombasa, Tana River, Kilifi, Lamu and Kwale Counties will have morning showers, as well as afternoon and evening showers, are likely to occur over few places during the forecast period.
