Contractors who are owed Ksh2 billion by Kisumu County have threatened to take Governor Anyang' Nyong'o to court if their dues are not settled.

The contractors argue that the bills have remained unpaid for seven years despite an audit to ascertain the credibility of the claims.

Pending Bills Chair Maurice Aloo demanded that the audit report carried out by the Kisumu County Government on December 16, 2019, be made public.

He claimed that the audit report stalled after it was handed over to Nyongo's administration by the national government.

"We understand that when the report is made public, that is when the payment of our pending bills will be done.

"This has been blocked and every time we inquired about the report. We were told that they are still working on it and consulting with Governor Nyong'o, " Aloo stated.

The chairman also noted that his efforts to reach the governor were futile as he was yet to get a response after six letters addressed to Nyong'o.

The contractors claim that they were to receive a payment of KSh700 million between 2013 and 2018 under former Governor Jack Ranguma.

Furthermore, the contractors stated they were to receive an additional amount of Ksh1.3 billion between July 2018 and June 30, 2020.

Aloo argued that there was a plot to buy time instead of offering the due payment to the contractors. His sentiments were echoed by the contractors' chairman, Jared Nyagol who noted that the matter would proceed to court as soon as next month if their plight is not addressed.

"We are reading malice in all these scenarios. Several of us have died. We can't see our members dying over something that can be solved even in court,” Nyagol spoke to a local media house.

However, reports indicate that Kisumu County Executive Member for Finance George Omondi dismissed the contractors' claims.
