Media personality Carol Radull on Wednesday, November 25, accused Heroes Council CEO Yvonne Khamati of not living up to her promises to help veteran boxer Conjestina Achieng' - four months after the diplomat took over the mantle of the government agency.

In a lengthy post on her social media, the radio queen noted that the council had promised to cater for the rehab expenses for the boxer and a role for her upon her release.

"The Heroes Council has taken me in circles since August with the CEO saying it was difficult for her to follow up matters because she was/is in Nigeria and 'time difference made it difficult'," she stated.

Radull stated that Congestina was moved from a rehabilitation centre in Eldoret to one in Thika with the help of NACADA with Heroes Council not chipping in to assist the veteran boxer.

"The Heroes Council has made promise after promise. They have reportedly been "seeking audience" with Sports CS, Sports PS in vain," she narrated.

She further stated that Congestina had since been released from the centre in Thika and was now living in Nairobi at her sister's place.

"We are considering sending her back to Yala. Neither is a conducive environment for a recovering addict who is idle. I fear she will relapse very quickly," Radull stated.

She stated that the help promised by the government agency was not forthcoming and that she was looking for other options.

"I am at a loss because Conje is now out and facing the same challenges she did before she was admitted. Had the Heroes Council not strung me along for 3 months; I would have tried to find other solutions. But what a disappointment," she added.

Khamati was in July 2020, appointed the CEO of the Heroes Council by Sports CS Amina Mohammed to identify and reward modern-day heroes and heroines.

In a previous interview, the CEO stated that they were looking into Congestina's plight and would give her the assistance she needed.

The council operates like a parastatal and has the whose mandate to take care of the heroes’ welfare.
