Dahir served as the MP for Lagdera constituency from 2002 to 2007.

Duale further revealed that his Jaanaza (funeral prayers) would be held at Masjid Nur and burial at Langata Muslim Cementary, Nairobi County.

Dahir tried to make a political comeback in 2017 when he threw his hat into the race for the Garissa Senatorial seat.

"Thousands of Garissa County voters have asked me to seek the senatorial position in the coming August election. I appreciate the trust you have in my leadership.

"I’m convinced that in this year 2017 we must face up to our conscience and make a definite choice. We must decide what sort of people we are and what sort of world we want–now and for our children," he stated.

He, however, did not win the seat which was won by Mohammed Yusuf Haji who is the father of DPP Noordin Haji.
