A police car in Voi Town was involved in an accident moments after picking 46 people who had been arrested for not wearing face masks.

According to the residents, the accident occurred as a result of overspeeding as the police Land Cruiser vehicle rolled off the road.

In a video seen by Kenyans.co.ke, residents were seen confronting a police officer after the accident as some of the arrested people who were in the police car lay on the ground with injuries.

“Our children are hurting,” one resident shouted at the police officer, as they exchanged words with the officer in uniform.

Other residents were seen walking towards the police vehicle to monitor the state of the land cruiser, which had a cracked windscreen.

Another victim, speaking while being treated at a local hospital, said that she had tried to plead with the officers to release her just minutes before the crash.

She recalled that she had gone to buy vegetables at a nearby shop when she was arrested by the police officers.

Police officers have intensified operations to arrest people flouting Covid-19 protocols.

On Wednesday, November 4, police conducted an inspection targeting people without facemasks at the Likoni Ferry.

Commuters without facemasks were rounded up alongside those wearing them on their chins.

In Trans Nzoia County, over 50 revelers were arrested at a party for gathering past curfew hours.
