Former Gatundu North MP Patrick Kariuki Muiruri has found himself in hot water barely a month after he was charged with fraud.

A report by People Daily indicated that on Monday, December 7, the politician was charged with defrauding a Kenyan who works in the US military.

According to court documents, the politician is reported to have sold a parcel of land located in Ngoingwa Estate, Thika.

The quarter an acre parcel was valued at Ksh 850,000 and had been sold to officer Benson Nthambiri Kathiga, based in the US, in 2009.

It was also claimed that the politician later pretended to have lost the title deed before reporting the matter to the Criminal Investigation Department.

Another title deed was said to have been issued in his name. The politician was charged with illegal and unlawful cancellation of the title deed of the suit property.

The new case came barely a month after the politician was embroiled in another fraudulent transaction with tycoon Viktah Maina, popularly known as Maathai, at the Thika Law Courts.

Documents that were presented in court at the time showed that the former MP had sold the parcel to Maathai through his company Mapema Holdings for Ksh9 million back in 2008.

The complainant in the case claimed that Muiruri's team had continued working on the property after he allegedly colluded with land officials in the county to cancel the land transfer.

“On October 4, 2016, the Chief Land Registrar, working in cahoots with first, second and third defendants fraudulently, illegally and without any colour of right canceled the transfer of the suit property to the plaintiff/applicant.

"Subsequently, the first defendant misrepresented to the Land Registrar that the original title of the suit property was lost and caused the same to be advertised in the Kenya Gazette No. 4031 of July 4, 2018," stated Judge Lucy Gacheru at the time.

"The Chief Registrar without exercising due diligence, issued the first defendant with a provisional certificate yet they were all well aware that the original one was with the applicant,” she added.

Muiruri, in his defence, claimed that the suit was based on wild allegations and admission of criminal ventures.
