Government Spokesperson Cyrus Oguna on Tuesday, December 8, dismissed a circular stating that President Uhuru Kenyatta was set to proceed on a one-month leave.

In a statement on his official handles, Oguna noted that the notice which claimed that the president would not be available for official celebrations after Jamhuri Day was a forged document.

The document which was reported widely by media houses indicated that the president would return to formal engagements in mid-January.

"The Ministry has the honour, therefore, to inform that after the Jamhuri Day Celebrations, from Tuesday, 15th December 2020 to Friday, 15th January 2021, H.E the President will not be available for any official/public engagements including phone call unless they are emergencies," read part of the circular alleged to be sent by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and issued to all heads of Diplomatic Missions.

Earlier on, speaking to Kenyans.co.ke, Foreign Affairs Principal Secretary Ambassador Macharia Kamau failed to authenticate the letter noting that such directives are issued by the Head of Public Service.

President Kenyatta had on Monday, November 7, presided over the launch of Kenya Ni Mimi youth campaign, a national platform for the youth to dialogue on their agenda and participation in social, economic and democratic processes.

The head of state engaged in a question and answer session with youths present at the Bomas of Kenya and touched on a number of issues including marriage and militarisation of certain sectors.

He advised the youth to focus on going through the education process and securing their future before thinking of marriage.

To mark the youthful event, the president and CAS Nadia took to the dance floor and showed off a few moves while dancing to a popular Tanzanian song.

In August 2020, Kenyatta sent home all Cabinet Secretaries, Principal Secretaries and Chief Administrative Secretaries, for a period of 11 days.

In a memo, Head of Public Service Joseph Kinyua indicated that that the cabinet would not be scheduled for any engagements for the 11 days unless contacted for important matters by the president or in case of a national emergency.

"Members of the cabinet will still be required to undertake their ministerial portfolio responsibilities and attend to any presidential engagements arising from or ancillary to their ministerial mandate," the memo stated in part.
