Three Children Drown in Flooded Quarry

A family in Mukinyai village in Molo is in mourning after three children drowned while playing near a flooded quarry.

The quarry was flooded following heavy rains that have been experienced in the region over the recent weeks.

Confirming the incident, Area Assistant Chief Zack Munari stated that the tragedy occurred at around 4 pm on Saturday, December 12.

Munari further revealed that the siblings had attempted to rescue each other from drowning in the quarry.

The children, since identified as Grace Wairimu, 15, Victor Kaniaru, 11, and Michael Kiritu, 8, were all pupils at Mukinyai Primary School.

Reports indicated that Kaniaru drowned as he made an attempt to rescue their younger brother, Kiritu from the dreadful waters. Chief Munari further revealed that Wairimu, who was the eldest, drowned trying to rescue her two brothers.

The area administrator stated that divers sort among the locals, retrieved the bodies of the deceased children from the flooded quarry at around 6 pm.

The bodies were moved to the Molo Sub County Mortuary.

Munari advised parents and members of the public to watch over their children.

The administrator assured residents that police officers would probe the incident.
