Police in Huruma, Starehe Sub-County in Nairobi, recovered a firearm during a routine night patrol in the early hours of Wednesday, November 19, 2025.
According to the National Police Service (NPS), the officers on patrol spotted a suspicious man who allegedly fled upon noticing them.
In a statement, NPS revealed that the suspect dropped an item before escaping into a dark alley during a chase.
"During the patrol, officers encountered a suspicious individual who fled the scene upon noticing the police presence. During the pursuit, the suspect dropped an item before disappearing into a dark passageway," the police statement reads.
The officers secured the area and checked the item, which turned out to be a firearm.
NPS stated that a crime scene expert documented the weapon, which is now in police custody, while the investigation continues.
Police also confirmed that efforts to identify and arrest the suspect are ongoing.
The NPS praised the officers for their quick action and urged members of the public to continue sharing information that could help the police improve safety in the country.
“The National Police Service commends the alertness of the officers involved and encourages members of the public to continue providing information that may assist in enhancing community safety,” the statement reads.
The latest discovery comes hardly a day after the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) arrested six suspects linked to a series of robbery incidents in Meru and recovered several items, including guns.
During the crackdown conducted after weeks of surveillance, the DCI officers stormed the suspects' hideouts in Meru, arresting them before they could escape.
According to the detectives, upon the arrest of the six suspects, they recovered several items, including two Falcon pistols and three live ammunition.
