The deceased leaves behind a wife and a 2-year-old child.

Recounting the scenes that occurred that fateful night, a village elder, Safari Jacob noted that he along with other neighbours responded to noises coming from the house.

"At around 8pm, we heard screams and shouts and loud bangs emanating from the house. We rushed to the scene only to find a section of Watuwa's wall had been demolished.

"Soon after spotting us, the perpetrators began to hurl stones at us," the elder stated.

Speaking to a local media house, OCPD Kisauni, Mombasa County, Peter Maluki wondered why Watuwa's friends would commit such a heinous crime.

Furthermore, he stated that the deceased had the right not to distribute the amount amongst his friends.

"I don't know how they were to share the Ksh15,000 amount. If you gamble and win, the money is supposed to be yours," Maluki noted.

OCPD Maluki affirmed that two suspects had already been arrested. He added that police officers had launched investigations to ensure the remaining suspects are brought to book.

The body of the deceased has been taken to the city mortuary in Makadara.

A growing number of Kenyans have resorted to trying their luck through gambling and lotteries in order to sustain their livelihoods.

The impact has been further felt during the Covid-19 pandemic as thousands have lost their jobs.
