Two clergymen are facing robbery with violence charges after allegedly robbing their landlord of Sh370,000 and a wristwatch valued at Sh25,000.

The pastors allegedly committed the crime following an altercation over rent after the landlord leased them a parcel of land that allegedly did not belong to him for a year.

Benson Muiruri Mucheru of House of Encounter Chapel and Joseph Zacharia Iyadi of African Transformers Youth Association are accused of mugging Geoffrey Ngatia Njoroge of the valuables inside his residence in Karen, Nairobi.

The alleged fracas are said to have happened inside Njoroge’s compound, which shares land with the two churches and his residence.

The churches were served with a notice for rent arrears of 12 months by an organization that claimed ownership of the property.

Upon discovering that they had been paying rent to the wrong person the infuriated clerics took matters into their own hands.

The landlord had been dropped home by a friend at around 11 pm and alighted at the rear door of his house.

Ganging up with a group of rowdy youths, the pastors stormed Njoroge's compound threatening to harm him before allegedly taking his belongings.

Njoroge claimed to have been robbed of the cash raised during a fundraiser at a hotel in Nairobi CBD.

The pastors have since been arraigned at the Kibera law courts.

The clerics denied committing the capital offense and were granted a Ksh600,000 bond each with a surety of a similar amount.

The case will be mentioned on Monday, January 11.
