Man Blows up House With Family Inside

A man in Nyakach, Kisumu County is alleged to have set off an explosion in a house with his family trapped inside.

The incident which occurred on Thursday, December 16, injured two people including the man's 8-year-old son.

Confirming the incident, Area police boss Jonathan Koech stated that the explosion occurred at night after the man had a disagreement with his wife.

"A 43-year-old man is said to have had a disagreement with his wife before setting up an unidentified object that blew up the house,” Koech stated.

The police boss stated that the suspect woke up at night and went to set up an explosive device in an adjacent room. By the time the blast went off, he had already fled.

A neighbour was also injured during the incident and was rushed to the hospital together with the boy.

It wasn't established how the wife managed to escape the explosion which also destroyed the mabati house.

She, however, managed to record a police statement where she claimed that the husband issued death threats when they argued in the evening.

Bomb squad officers were deployed to the scene to establish the cause of the explosion.

Officers from the Serious Crime Unit of the National Police Service have launched a manhunt on the man and are investigating the matter.

In a separate incident, a college student from Kisiwa Technical Training College is nursing injuries after she was allegedly attacked by her ex-husband.

The victim claimed that she found the man in her house when he attacked her with a knife.

Police are looking for the culprit.
