1 Child Dead, 8 Injured After Explosion at Children's Home in Isiolo

A 12-year old boy died and 8 others were injured on Monday after a device exploded at a children's home in Isiolo.

One of the injured was a KCPE student who was expected to undertake his national exams that were scheduled to start on Tuesday.

The explosion occurred at Victors Homestead Children's Home in Burat Ward, Isiolo County.

It was believed that the children were playing with the explosive device at the time of the tragedy.

The deceased child died on the spot and his body was immediately transferred to Isiolo County Referal Hospital.

According to the Isiolo County Commissioner John Ndego, the dangerous device had been left there by the clashing groups in the area.

Isiolo has been under fire especially due to the rampant cases of war between communities and even Al-Shaabab Militia from the neighboring Somalia.

The communities that have been at war in that area, mostly clashing at the Isiolo – Garisa Border, were the Gar Bartula and Lagdera.

Reports have indicated that 3 people have been killed across that border as a result of the war.

The police identified another explosive from the area and successfully took it away before injuring anyone else.
