Embakasi East Member of Parliament Babu Owino has hinted at a possible political alliance with Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka after encouraging him in his upcoming presidential bid for the 2027 general election.
The MP was speaking on Friday, August 15, during the Law Society of Kenya Annual Conference in Diani, Kwale County, where he urged Kalonzo, who announced that he would be on the ballot in 2027, to ‘go forth and conquer the nations’, hinting at a possible support for his bid.
Babu Owino, who has long been an ally of ODM leader Raila Odinga, encouraged the Wiper Democratic Front Party leader to continue with his candidacy.
‘’Unto excellency Kalonzo Musyoka, go ye and conquer the nations,’’ Owino said.
Recently, Kalonzo has been meeting with a group of ODM leaders who have been labelled ‘rebels’ for speaking out against the broad-based government formed by Raila and President William Ruto.
Kalonzo had on Monday met with ODM Secretary General and Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna during the same conference, and hinted that their meeting could lead to future alliances.
“Had a productive chat with Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna in Kwale this afternoon. Exchanged numbers – I have a feeling this connection could lead to some exciting things," Kalonzo said after having a chit chat with Sifuna in the LSK conference.
Babu Owino also had a message for the Nairobi Senator, encouraging him to continue with the criticism he has been making of the government.
“To my super-senator, Edwin Sifuna, continue injecting with the sealant and the needle of a camel,” Babu declared, using the metaphor to encourage Sifuna’s persistent criticism of government policies.
The senator has been under criticism from leaders in ODM who don't agree with his opinions on the Broad-Based MoU, which Sifuna said has gone against the initial agreement.
Sifuna disclosed that he had advised ODM against entering the formal agreement with UDA, warning of potential public relations disasters that would be difficult to manage.
At the same forum, Owino sent a message to President William Ruto, urging him to respect the Constitution.
“To the President of the Republic of Kenya, you must respect the Constitution,” the MP said.
