Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has hinted at a possible political alliance with Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Secretary-General Edwin Sifuna after the two leaders’ latest meeting on Thursday, August 14.
The two were among the dignitaries present in Kwale County for the Law Society of Kenya's annual conference.
After the conference, Kalonzo took to social media to reveal his meeting with his fellow legal mind, Sifuna, as he hinted at working with the Senator in the near future.
“Had a productive chat with Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna in Kwale this afternoon. Exchanged numbers – I have a feeling this connection could lead to some exciting things," Kalonzo said.
In his message, Kalonzo added the hashtag #futurethinking, a subtle hint that he was considering a future collaboration with Sifuna, whose fate at ODM remains uncertain.
The latest coming together of Kalonzo, a known critic of the Kenya Kwanza government, and Sifuna, who is affiliated with a party under an MoU with Kenya Kwanza, inevitably sparked conversation on social media, with watchers wondering which political direction the meeting might lead to.
On August 12, Sifuna ignited conversation once again by announcing a meeting with the likes of Embakasi East Member of Parliament and renowned Rigathi Gachagua ally, Githunguri MP Gathoni Wamuchomba.
The lawmakers, who also included Saboti Member of Parliament Caleb Amisi, held a late lunch, although the particulars of their meeting were not made public.
Sifuna has been a controversial figure within ODM in recent weeks, particularly after an explosive TV interview where he openly faulted his party, describing it as "confused."
The Senator doubled down on his criticism of his party by later warning that he would not back the party's decision to support President Ruto's re-election in 2027.
“I am willing to read whatever statement ODM releases, even if it insults me. But if they ever decide to support Ruto in 2027, I will not read that, and I will not be part of it,” Sifuna warned.
As far as Kalonzo was concerned, the Wiper boss had maintained that he was determined to make Ruto a one-term president, as he dismissed rumours that he would join government.
“Anyone thinking that Kalonzo Musyoka or Eugene Wamalwa or Rigathi Gachagua or Martha Karua or Fred Matiang’i or any other of our colleagues in the united opposition will be bought, intimidated, or compromised to abandon this nation, clearly must be day-dreaming,” Kalonzo said on August 9 during a presser on behalf of the opposition coalition.
