An expectant woman is fighting for her life at the Mukumu Mission Hospital in Ikolomani, Kakamega County, where she was rushed after being attacked by unknown assailants.

The 2 am incident is said to have been orchestrated by a gang of four men.

Police said that the woman and the husband, Vincent Tuvula, were attacked by the thugs at night.

"I was sleeping when suddenly I heard people screaming, and so I hurriedly went out to check what was happening.

"It is there that I found Tuvula and his wife lying in a pool of blood," Kevin Otongolo, a neighbour and eyewitness reported.

The two were rushed to hospital where Tuvula was pronounced dead, succumbing to injuries he had sustained. His wife, on the other hand, is still fighting for her life.

Tuvula's mother, Merciline Imali, claimed that land feuds might have occasioned the attacks.

Imali stated that his son never found peace after inheriting a piece of land. He had reportedly declined to sell to an unidentified individual.

Ikolomani Police Commander Joseph Chesire stated that investigations were underway to establish the motive behind the attack with his officers expected to apprehend the perpetrators.

"I urge locals to embrace peaceful conflict resolution mechanisms instead of violence," Chesire stated.
