A couple residing in Dagoretti along Ngina Road, Nairobi, was on Tuesday, December 22, arrested by detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).

The couple was accused of participating in a spate of violent robberies and were nabbed after detectives got a tip off from the public.

A statement from the investigative body indicated that CCTV footage from various crime scenes incriminated the duo.

Officers raided their house in the wee hours of the morning and recovered a pistol and 16 rounds of live ammunition.

The two were allegedly also found in possession of a police smoke jacket and various denominations of foreign currency.

"The two, a man and a woman aged 29 and 21 years respectively, were arrested following a tip-off from the public," reads an excerpt of the statement.

There has been a spike in the number of reported crimes in the last couple of months.

The arrest came days after six suspected gang members were gunned down by police officers in Nakuru County.

Reports indicated that police officers had been trailing the suspects’ vehicle from Nairobi to Section 58 on the Nakuru-Nairobi highway.

According to the police, the suspects were behind the rise in criminal activities in the area.
