Amos Nyaribo has been sworn in as the new Nyamira County Governor. He takes over from the late John Nyagarama.

He was sworn in at Nyamira Primary School in a ceremony graced by leaders from across the country, including Council of Governors Chairperson Wycliffe Oparanya.

The ceremony was presided over by High Court Judge Justice Esther Maina.

Nyaribo, who becomes Nyamira's second governor, was presented with the instruments of power, including the county's flag and seal, by County secretary James Ntabo.

Nyaribo, who previously served as a Deputy Governor, was sworn in at the same school where he and Nyagarama took their oath of office following their win in the 2013 general election and their reelection in 2017.

The new governor will be required to present a nominee for the position of deputy governor within 10 days of his swearing-in. The nominee upon successful vetting will assume office as Nyamira County DG.

Leaders in attendance included; Devolution Cabinet Secretary Eugene Wamalwa, Kisii Governor James Ongwae and Nyamira Senator Okong'o Omogeni.

Other leaders present were Members of Parliament (MPs) Naymira County Woman Representative Jerusha Momanyi, Vincent Kemosi (West Mugirango), Ben Momanyi (Borabu), Shadrack Mose (Kitutu Masaba) and Joash Nyamoko(North Mugirango).

Reports in the recent past had indicated that Nyaribo's working relationship with the late governor had not always been rosy. This included court battles between them.

The new county boss had one time accused Nyagarama of failing to honour pre-election pacts.

The former deputy governor was a strong champion for the auditing of the staff report, alleging that the county was losing funds to ghost workers on the county's payroll.
