Former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has called for the impeachment of President Uhuru Kenyatta.

While responding to Nominated MP David Sankok’s suggestion on a looming impeachment, Sonko expressed his displeasure with President Kenyatta’s regime.

“Let him also be a former President before his retirement the same way he made me become a former Governor before the end of my time. I hate you Your Excellency Uhuru Muigai Kenyatta. You are the worst President,” the politician sensationally said.

He regretted having pledged his loyalty to the head of state, only for him to take over the running of the city through the Nairobi Metropolitan Services.

The former governor also accused officials from the Office of the President of intimidating politicians.

“Wanjikus, myself included, are fed up with the dictatorial leadership of our once upon a time beloved President whom I used to love with all my heart. There was a time I was even ready to lose my life coz of supporting him,” he added.

His outburst raised mixed reactions from Kenyans who slammed and supported them in equal measure.

This comes in the backdrop of the suspension of the looming by-election in Nairobi County which was made by the High Court pending the hearing and determination of the case challenging Sonko’s impeachment.

According to sources close to the former governor,  Sonko is rallying up his support base to back an opposition candidate, especially one that will be fronted by Deputy President William Ruto.

Sonko started campaigns in Starehe Constituency on Sunday, December 20, and said that he would tour over 15 other constituencies to rally his base.

He also initiated a food drive to help families during the Christmas festivity.

"We are strong and we are ready for the by-election," Sonko stated in videos posted on his social media pages.
