She stated that she would be keen to end the perennial water shortage that has bedevilled the city as well as improve the status of city markets.

Wanjiru who has called upon her opponents to run a peaceful campaign is an ardent supporter of DP William Ruto who is linked to the UDA party.

UDA party which was previously identified as the Party for Development and Reform (PDR) was formed by Deputy President William Ruto's allies.

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has since suspended Nairobi by-elections after former governor Mike Sonko filed a suit.

The elections were slated for Thursday, February 18.

Sonko moved to court in December 2020, challenging the decision by the Senate to uphold his impeachment by the Nairobi County Assembly.

Previously, IEBC had revealed that 20 aspirants had submitted their names for the Nairobi Gubernatorial race.

Jubilee Party fronted five aspirants among them Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) Secretariat Co-chairman Dennis Waweru, businesswoman Agnes Kagure, Betty Adera, Alex Kemboi and Habib Kongo.

Former Kiambu Governor Waititu also submitted his name to the Commission though his application was disputed by the IEBC Chairman Wafula Chebukati who noted that an impeached governor could not run for elective office.
