Former West Mugirango MP James Gesami has been appointed as Nyamira Deputy Governor by newly sworn-in Governor Amos Nyaribo.

In a statement from the office of Nyamira County Government dated Wednesday, January 6, Nyaribo also unveiled a list of 10 County Executive Committee (CECs) nominees.

"Pursuant to Article 179(2b) of the Constitution of Kenya 2010, read together with Article 35 of the County Government Act, 2012 on Appointment of County Executive Committee Members... I hereby submit 10 nominees for vetting and approval to the position of County Executive Committee Member in respective departments," part of the statement read.

Gesami served as MP for West Mugirango between 2007 and 2017 on an ODM ticket. Between 2008 and 2012, he served as the Assistant Minister in the Ministry of Public Health and Sanitation.

He previously contested for the Nyamira Gubernatorial seat during the 2017 General elections but lost to the immediate former Governor - the late John Nyagarama.

The newly appointed DG is also a trained doctor from the University of Nairobi.

This comes 24 hours after Nyaribo held a meeting with Orange Democratic Movement leader (ODM) Raila Odinga and Council of Governors chairman Wycliffe Oparanya as they discussed issues on county developments.

Recently, Nyaribo fired all 10 CECs after taking over office from the late Nyagarama.

During his inauguration speech, Nyaribo affirmed that he would rid the county of public officers misusing public funds.

"We have been losing public money by paying for incomplete and ghost development projects. Corruption affects all of us. Let us not be silenced but (let us) report to the responsible agencies.

"I call upon all leaders to work together and respect each other so that we can develop our county. We have been given the mandate to serve our people through service delivery," Nyaribo stated.

Furthermore, he promised to elevate Nyamira County to the next level in the following 18 months that he would be in office.

This would be achieved by tackling key issues affecting the county government such as graft, healthcare, education and agriculture.
