Residents of Kajiado North Sub-county have decried the high cost of buying water after road projects by the Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) and the Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA) destroyed water lines in the area.
Oloolaiser Water and Sewerage Company, which supplies water in the area, said it has lost income due to the water supply cut-off.
Reports indicate that over 3,000 residents of Ongata Rongai, Ngong and Bul Bul have been forced to seek alternative expensive sources of water.
Oloolaiser Water and Sewerage Company distributes water to the residents at the cost of Ksh 53 per 6 units, a price residents find affordable.
The company has since stated that the destruction of the water lines has resulted in massive revenue losses by the company. This has forced residents to seek water from vendors who have charged them exorbitant prices.
The company called upon the national government to help them restore the water supply as it will help residents curb the spread of the Covid-19 virus.
"We have been talking with them in several meetings, together with the President's Delivery Unit, for them to be able to restore the water pipelines. That has not been done. That has really affected our supply to the citizens," Dickson Ntikoisa, Chief Executive Officer of Oloolaiser Water and Sewerage Company stated.
The agencies have since vowed to restore the water connection in the region to ease the burden on citizens.
Despite the inconvenience, the road agencies have finished several road projects in the country in the recent past.
For instance, KenHA led in the development of various projects in the country including a number of road projects and the Liwatoni Floating Bridge unveiled by President Uhuru Kenyatta on December 10, 2020.
