A mother is battling her children over millions that were left behind by her husband who served in the Kenyan military.
A report by The Standard on Sunday, January 10, indicated that the widow, Eunice Jerop, in one of her affidavits, had disowned her step-daughter identified as Alicent Tarus.
"The petitioner doesn't know Tarus and she disputes that Tarus is the deceased's daughter," read the statement in part.
Jerop was married to Wilson Kiprono who worked in the military before his demise. He left behind a number of property that were being run by the widow.
Jerop's son Tarus, however, filed a suit disputing an award made to his mother to manage the estate left by his father claiming that his sibling, most of whom are underage, and himself, were not included in the succession suit.
"The petitioner didn't include the respondent's name, his sister's and their other five siblings aged between five and 16 years," countered Kiptanui.
In 2015, Jerop was granted the powers to manage her husband's estate which included a 15-acre land in Esangare, Eldama Ravine area of Baringo County.
Other wealth that were the subject of contention included Ksh1.7 million military gratuity, Ksh2.2 million insurance money, Ksh32,000 monthly pension and ksh200,000 in bank accounts.
Jerop, however, defended her claim explaining that Tarus was not her daughter, noting that her husband's name was also missing from her (Tarus') birth certificate.
Jerop has battled her son as well as brother's-in-law since the death of her husband on November10, 2011.
"It is thus clear that Tarus is not the petitioner's step-daughter nor is she the deceased's daughter," continued Jerop.
She also claimed that she had continuously received threats from her son and was at one point forced to involve local authorities.
Jerop also revealed that her son stormed her home in 2014 forcing her to flee for safety.
She wants them to be evicted from the property and allow her reinstated as the official resident.
