Media personality Caroline Mutoko, on Wednesday, January 13, reacted to international Model Naomi Campbell's appointment to tourism board.

In a video she shared, the former radio host expressed disaffection at the manner in which a section of Kenyans trolled Campbell online following her appointment.

Mutoko argued that the country had consistently spewed bile whenever such appointments were made, including in 2017 when Ugandan singer Eddy Kenzo was named Magical Kenya Brand Ambassador.

She took issue with Kenyans' lopsided criticism arguing that in 2015, Sauti Sol were named brand ambassadors for South Africa's tourism board, and no one complained, neither in Kenya nor down South.

"When South Africa was looking for icons for Kenya, to sell their products, they picked Sauti Sol, you did not (complain) about that and you did not see Sauti sol lament either.

"Are we so ignorant we don't get it. Then why do we display our ignorance so boldly and loudly and then coat it with a little bit of bile and arrogance to boot? Why?" She questioned.

She also noted that Dubai had doubled down on stars to drive traffic to their exquisite destinations regardless of their nationalities.

She also explained that Campbell had proved her love for Kenya, making three trips to the country so far, and shouting to the world about it.

"From the moment she lands, she tweets and she is usually in Malindi. She is a friend of Kenya. How we have reacted to this international icon who has consistently picked this country, we need to be ashamed of ourselves," Mutoko added.

There was immense backlash on Tuesday, January 12, after Tourism CS Najib Balala appointed Campbell as Magical Kenya International Tourism ambassador.

The matter trended for the better part of Tuesday morning, with a number of netizens expressing their disappointment at the choice, saying that there are a number of Kenyans who would have clinched the position.

"Lupita Nyong'o would have made a better Magical Kenya International Ambassador compared to Naomi Campbell. Well, It's just what I think," political analyst Bravin Yuri stated.

The Ministry of Tourism had said that the international model's new role will include helping promote and market Kenya as an ideal tourism and travel destination.
