The house help to the lawyer who was found dead in her bedroom on Friday, January 8, in Syokimau, Machakos County, has shed light on the events of the night when Elizabeth Koki is believed to have been killed.
She recorded a statement with the Directorate of Criminal Investigations Officers (DCI) on Wednesday, January 13, narrating to the police officers that on that fateful night, Koki was home by 8 pm.
At around 9 pm, Koki was joined by a man, who was a frequent visitor to Koki's household. Later on, the house help said that she took Koki's two children to bed as they left both Koki and the man together.
The house help said that she heard screams coming from Koki's bedroom at around 10.30 pm
She detailed that the screams did not bother her as she thought it was one of the usual fights that Koki had with the man.
However, the following morning at around 10 am, the house help found Koki's lifeless body in her bedroom and the man was not in the house.
She stated that Koki usually left the house for work at 7 am.
Athi River DCI boss Vincent Kipkorir said that the key suspect in the murder case, Christian Mwambay Kadima, was yet to record a statement with the detectives.
"We are still waiting for Kadima's lawyer. He has declined to record a statement until he is accompanied by a lawyer," Kipkorir noted.
Recently, an autopsy report showed that the lawyer was suffocated to death. According to Government pathologist Johansen Oduor, the deceased suffered injuries on the mouth which are consistent with a gag.
Kadima was arrested in connection to the murder of the lawyer. The Congolese national was allegedly the last person spotted leaving Koki's house on the fateful night.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the two were having an argument on the night Koki died. The heated argument was purportedly due to photos found on Kadima's phone.
Kadima initially informed officers that Koki fell from the bed and hit her head. He explained that he left the deceased unconscious and drove off in her car to the Nairobi Central Business District (CBD), where he met a friend and narrated what had taken place.
The two would later part ways and according to the suspect, his friend went to Riruta while he booked a room at a lodging. The police officers later traced Kadima to the lodging and arrested him.
