The job crisis in Kenya once again became bare on Tuesday 26, 2021 when a group of over 5,000 youths turned up for recruitment where the Kenya Wildlife Service was seeking to fill a mere 80 slots.

The hiring officers at the Voi Stadium, the recruitment center for Taita Taveta County, had a hard time controlling the enthusiastic young men and women who turned up for the exercise.

KWS had shortlisted 5,500 candidates in Kenya, out of more than 12,000 applicants. Despite publishing the list of the shortlisted, thousands of others showed up at the Voi Stadium.

The minimum requirement for the application was a KCPE certificate and being in the 18 to 35 years age bracket.

The terms of engagement include a 6 month- a contract that is renewable after appraisal.

According to Captain Kenneth Ochieng, Assistant Director in charge of Tsavo Conservation area, the program requires 5,500 candidates countrywide.

This leaves 80 slots for Taita Taveta County, which has 4 sub-counties. Priority will be given to persons

with disabilities who have a certificate from the councils of people with disabilities.

Thousands are competing for eighty slots out of which four will go to persons living with disabilities.

Each sub-county gets 20 slots which will be awarded in respect to the two-thirds gender rule that

is seventy per cent male, thirty percent female.

Captain Ochieng further insisted that the process would be free, fair and transparent. Successful candidates

will receive a letter from KWS.

Youth were cautioned to look out for confirmation letters signed by the team leader and a recruitment

team.

The qualified candidates are to report to the respective KWS offices on February 1, 2021, after which they will be assigned roles.
