Nairobi Metropolitan Services (NMS) Director-General Mohammed Badi has formed a special team to handle any crisis that may arise between his office and City Hall.
The high-level committee will see to the cooperation and coordination of the two institutions towards effective and efficient service delivery.
Badi announced the formation of the team during a joint workshop retreat facilitated by the NMS to brief members of the County Assembly on the status of programs being implemented by NMS for the financial year 2020/2021 and implementation of ward development fund programs.
Nairobi Deputy Governor Ann Kananu stated that they were looking for efficient deployment of human resources, both at Nairobi County Government and NMS.
She noted that there was a need to relook at ways in which the roles between the two organisations can be shared to facilitate seamless operations.
"We will both work towards the mutual benefit of Nairobi city residents and therefore we will use this opportunity to continue advocating for the creation of a high-level bilateral team to work together and advise on how NCCG and NMS can improve our working partnership, collaboration, and cooperation," she stated.
She further commended the engagement and the forging of a tri-partite partnership of the County Executive, County Assembly, and NMS.
"It is refreshing and I am humbled by the strong synergy that I am witnessing today. If we continue in this way, we will go very far," she observed.
In the meeting, Members of the County Assembly led by Speaker Benson Mutura shared areas raised by citizens to be addressed after sessions of public participation.
Kananu on January 27, handed over pending bills files worth Ksh1.3 Billion paving the way for the clearance of debts owed to various suppliers.
She noted that the decision was arrived at after the office of the Auditor-General asked the Treasury to undertake a special audit in line with section 96(3) of the Public Finance Management.
Four functions - health; transport and public works, environment, and water - were transferred from the Nairobi County Government to the National Government with NMS being the implementing agency.
The County Assembly pursuant to article 187 of the constitution, and the addendum to the deed of transfer of function, retained its budget-making and oversight mandate over the transferred functions.
