The news comes after speculations went rife over his alleged demise on Wednesday, January 20.

The rumors were however dispelled by the family who noted that the ex-presidential aspirant was receiving treatment in hospital.

"Mzee is unwell and in hospital receiving care and treatment. The said rumours are unfortunate and untrue," Nyachae's eldest son, who is also a judge in the East African Court of Justice in Arusha, Charles Nyachae stated.

Nyachae is one of the most prominent politicians to come from the Kisii region.

The politician also served in various ranks in government through the Mzee Jomo Kenyatta, Mzee Daniel Arap Moi and former President Mwai Kibaki regimes.

He was appointed by Mzee Jomo Kenyatta as a district officer in Kangundo in 1960, as a district commissioner for Nyandarua in March 1963, and later a provincial commissioner for Central in 1964.

He later served in the defunct provincial administration till 1979 and later as head of civil service under the Kenyatta regime, extending into retired President Daniel Toroitich Arap Moi's rule.

He served as cabinet minister first for Agriculture, then in 1998 as minister of finance under President Moi's regime. He then served as MP for Nyaribari Chache before losing to Dr. Monda.

The former minister retired from active politics in 2007.
