National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) has suspended an entire fleet of Sacco whose matatu crew pushed a woman to her death while the vehicle was in motion.

In a statement NTSA shared with Kenyans.co.ke, all public transport vehicles attached to Memba Travellers Sacco Society have ceased to operate immediately due to the incident.

That was after the authority summoned the Saccos officials who were also ordered to present their fleet for a compliance inspection exercise in Nairobi.

"The authority directed that all vehicles operated by the Sacco should cease operating with immediate effect.

"The vehicles belonging to the Sacco be subjected to a compliance inspection at the NTSA inspection centre at Likoni road, Nairobi," read the notice in part.

The authority further noted that upon inspection, only vehicles that shall have been cleared shall be allowed to operate.

NTSA also revealed that it would heighten its compliance check to ascertain that the Sacco meets the NTSA requirements for operation of public transport.

The deceased, Judy Wanjiku, died following the altercation with the matatu crew over the fare she had been asked to pay.

The deceased was then pushed from the matatu in Juja rendering her unconscious for minutes. When she recovered, she called her brother who insisted on taking her to the hospital but she declined, saying she was okay.

she was later taken to the hospital on Sunday morning after failing to wake up. She was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Eyewitnesses said that the matatu driver had also wanted to run her over after the tout threw them out of the moving vehicle.

Kenyans on Monday, February 8, took to social media to push for action after details of the unfortunate incident emerged.
