Government Spokesperson Cyrus Oguna has cautioned Kenyans to beware of a scam targeting millions who applied for the Huduma Namba cards

Speaking during a press briefing on Wednesday, February 10, he stated that the fraudsters were sending text messages soliciting money for Kenyans to collect their cards.

“Please note that notification messages will only come to you from Huduma Namba and not any other phone number,” he stated.

Oguna also revealed that the government had sent 2.2 million Kenyans texts informing them that their cards were ready.

However, only 300,000 Kenyans had followed up to collect their documents.

During the registration process, 37 million people were registered and out of those, 20 million are adults.

Only Kenyans of 18 years and above will be given the Huduma Namba Card. Children under 18 years will only have a Huduma Namba and upon turning 18 years they shall be issued with the card.

How to collect the Huduma Namba Card

Two SMS notifications will be sent out to all who registered for Huduma Namba to inform them the card is ready for collection.

The first message will have a link that once opened will prompt you to choose your preferred point of collection of the Huduma Card.

The second message will notify you that the card is ready for collection and where to collect based on the choice you made when you opened the link on the first message.

To those that are unable to make the choice via phone, there is a toll-free number 0800221111 that goes to Huduma Center and you can be assisted on where to get your Huduma Card.

If you do not respond to the first message, the Huduma Namba Secretariat will choose the location that you will pick your card from, depending on where you made your application from.

For those who did not apply during the first round of registration, the government is preparing to roll out another phase in May 2021.
