The family of the late Hosea Kiplagat has been saved from the agony of having to watch his mansion in Karen being auctioned just days after his death.

The Ksh341 million residence had been attached by auctioneers due to a Ksh375 million loan and scheduled for sale on Tuesday, February 16, 2021.

“The auction was suspended in view of the family’s loss. The bank will resume the auction at a later date,” a source at the auction company told Kenyans.co.ke

The property in question is situated along Quarry Lane approximately 1.2kms off Bogani Road in the Karen Area.

It borders River Mbagathi to the Southern Boundary and approximately 18.5kms from the Nairobi CBD. It measures 2.014 Hectares (4.977 Acres).

It is developed with a three-bedroom master ensuite main house complex, son’s two-bedroom guest house, a three-bedroom self-contained servants quarter, garage and car wash, a double-storey business room and guest entertainment block, swimming pool (with fountain) and baby pool, sauna and steam bath complex (with Jacuzzi).

The property also has an office block complex, squash complex, greenhouses and beehives.

The monthly rent income on the property is said to be Ksh1.5 million.

When the auction resumes, bidders will be required to produce a bidding deposit of Ksh 5 million by way of cash or bankers cheque before being allowed to bid.

Kiplagat’s other properties in Kenmosa Area of Eldoret municipality are also set for auction, striking a stark contrast from the rosy times he was former President Daniel Moi right-hand man in the 1990s.

Kiplagat’s prowess as a grassroot mobiliser was unrivalled and made him an asset in the political scene.

And with time, Kiplagat’s political and economic stature rose exponentially—a sharp rise from his earlier days as a lowly remunerated prison warder.
