Police were on Thursday, February 18 baffled by new discoveries found at the multi-million drug hideout at Kedong Ranch

Speaking to the media, Naivasha sub-county Commissioner Mutua Kisilu stated that the entire plantation was worth Ksh81 million, Ksh 57 million more than what had been reported earlier.

“We have managed to burn bhang worth over Ksh 81m that was recovered by our officers last week,” he said.

He added that police investigations showed that the plantation was being guarded by youth used by a well-connected cartel with deep pockets.

“The plantation which was almost one acre had people protecting it who were being funded. Our investigation shows that the people behind this are very wealthy,” Kisilu explained.

The police were also shocked to discover that the area had caves that have been used to dry the Marijuana plants after harvesting.

There are plans to conduct an aerial survey over the vast land which stretches between Mai Mahiu and Narok Road, to establish whether there are other plantations.

So far 14 people have been arrested and detectives are trying to uncover the owners of the ranch.

The history of the land dates back to pre-colonial times when it was owned by the British government which handed it over after independence.

Kisilu added that after British settlers left after Independence, the Kitet Maasai continued to live on their land.

The ranch has 75,000 acres which President Uhuru Kenyatta hived off 1,000 acres and gave to Uganda and South Sudan for the construction of dry ports.

The government is also eyeing part of the land for the construction of a special economic zone.
