A male recruit died on Monday, February 22, during the Kenya police recruitment exercise in Webuye, Bungoma county.
Dennis Wamukota, aged 26 years is said to have died shortly after completing a six-kilometer run which was a prerequisite in the exercise.
Wamukota was among the 300 candidates who turned up for the exercise at Bokoli Primary School.
The parents told K24 that their son was pursuing an engineering course at the National Youth service and had traveled home to try his luck in the recruitment. Engineering was among the specialties that the National Police Service was looking for.
Kenya Police medical officers rushed him to Bokoli Sub-County Medical Centre where he was declared dead on arrival.
“The doctors tried their best to assist him, but sadly we lost him,' said Dennis Ngetich, the Deputy Regional police commander who was supervising the exercise.
According to the National Police Service, the applicants were to be Kenyan citizens, with a Kenyan national Identity Card, aged between 18 and 28 years for those with KCSE certificates, those aged 30 years were required to have a diploma or a degree.
The applicants were also required to meet the requirements of Chapter Six of The Constitution, be physically, mentally, and medically fit without any criminal records or charges. Female applicants were required to not be pregnant during the exercise.
In another case, reports indicate that a recruit became violent and started fighting officers in a similar recruitment in Mvita, Mombasa county on Monday, February 22. A lady was seen praying for him after the incident.
On February 12, Maxwell Saro who had turned up for the KDF recruitment in Malindi town, Kilifi county, developed medical complications after completing the physical exercise which led to his death hours later. This was after he had threatened to beat up the officers running the exercise.
