Nominated senator Millicent Omanga on Wednesday, February 24, prompted a heated discussion after she hinted at presidential aspirations in 2022.
The senator was celebrating one million social media followers when she seemingly teased her fans.
"Thank you so much for the 1,106,000 followers. If each of the followers can cast a vote in my name, then, that would be enough for me as a presidential candidate in 2022," she stated.
It is this comment that elicited a heated conversation from her fans with most alluding that Omanga would not clinch the top seat.
"You may be surprised that 30 percent (of Omanga's followers) are Ugandans, 20 percent are Tanzanians, 10 percent are South Africans, 3 percent own more than one account and 5 percent are bots, 10 percent are on a trolling mission, the rest are real followers who share between Tangatanga and Handshake. Stop dreaming on social media," Frank Mtetezi stated.
"Kenyan politicians should desist from this madness of always seeing the public in terms of votes. It seriously demeans our intelligence as a country," Ogaso Bruno weighed in.
There were some who also argued that the nominated senator is a role model to the young girls.
"We love the way you mentor the youth," Gabriel Eric added.
Omanga has been a fierce supporter of Deputy President William Ruto who has declared interest for the top seat in 2022.
Recently, Omanga and five other nominated MPs, Isaac Mwaura, Mary Yiane, Waqo Naomi Jilo, Prengei Victor and Iman Falhada Dekow were expelled from the Jubilee Party.
Jubilee secretary general Raphael Tuju stated that they disrespected President Uhuru Kenyatta adding tha all party members should address the head of state with decorum.
The Political Parties Disputes Tribunal, however, suspended the decision by Jubilee Party to expel the six politicians.
They directed that the resolution by Jubilee Party be set aside to allow the affected members to get a hearing in court.
