Veteran radio and TV presenter Leonard Mambo Mbotela revealed details of how President Uhuru Kenyatta settled his huge medical bill in December 2020 without Mbotela's knowledge.
Speaking on Churchill's Journey Series Show, Mbotela disclosed that doctors at the Nairobi South Hospital told him that he had been discharged and that someone had paid his Ksh1 million hospital bill in cash.
It was only later when Mbotela was watching the news on TV that he found out that the Head of State had cleared his bill.
"The Kenyatta family have been my friends for a long time and so when the president heard of my plea, he sent his aides to bring the money at the hospital in cash.
"I, however, did not know that he is the one that had settled the bills. It is only after I watched the 7pm news when I learnt of the president's gesture," he narrated.
Mbotela has since requested to get an audience with the president to express his gratitude following the act of kindness.
"Mheshimiwa Rais, allow me to express my gratitude on this platform because I have not gotten an opportunity to say thank you since I was discharged from hospital.
"I know that you are a busy man and have a lot on your plate currently but if it is possible, allow me to come and express my gratitude to you. Thank you, your excellency," Mbotela stated.
The radio personality was admitted at the Nairobi South Hospital on October 29, 2020, and his bill had accumulated to Ksh1,105,498.78.
The 79-year-old retired in the late 90's but came back on air on both KBC TV and radio.
