12-year-old Sheila Sheldone Charles, on Monday, March 8, won the 2021 Nina Simone Artistic Excellence Honoree for Young, Gifted, and Black Entrepreneur. She was the only child, and African nominated for the award.
"My utmost appreciation goes to the following people who facilitated my traveling to the USA; Mombasa County, Department of Youth, Gender, Sports and Cultural Affair, Captain Mohamed of Fly Skyward Express," said Sheila.
The award won on March 8, is her third award after winning the Youngest Lioness Award in 2018 and the Global Child Prodigy Award in 2020.
Sheldon was awarded the Youngest Lioness Award in the United States for being the youngest African girl helping the community therein. The Global Child Prodigy Award was awarded in New Delhi, India.
She is multi-talented as she is a model, poet, designer, and artist. The award winner has two songs, ‘Ringo and Corona’. As for her modeling and designer talent, she designs her own clothes and models them.
With her artistic talent. Sheila has painted many portraits that have made the news.
On March 14, 2020, Sheila posted a painting of US talk show host Ellen DeGeneres that sparked an overwhelming response from people around the world on social media.
Sheldone has previously caught the eye of leaders including; President Uhuru Kenyatta, ODM leader Raila Odinga, former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko, and Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni.
She gifted the above-mentioned leaders with paintings on different occasions when they met.
