Two residents of Pangani in Nairobi were arraigned at Madaraka law Courts for allegedly assaulting a caretaker and causing him severe bodily harm.

The two were charged with assaulting their caretaker David Gikunji Ngatia, in Nairobi's Pangani area.

The court heard that the suspects attacked Gikunji as he was supervising renovation works on the building.

The court also heard that the contractor who had been working on the renovations fled and later filed a report at the Pangani Police Station.

The complainant appeared in court with a fractured hand, an injury he claimed he sustained during the attack.

The suspects, however, denied the charges presented before Principal Magistrate Jackie Kibosia. Gikunji told the court that the two kept threatening him after the attack.

On March 9, 2020, Gikunji and his son, Zakayo Ngatia appeared before the same court with charges of robbery with violence. They were accused of robbing one of the suspects of his two mobile phones valued at Ksh 27,000 on February 26, 2020, in Pangani, Nairobi.

In his defense, the caretaker said that the two who assaulted him broke his arm and later made a false robbery complaint at Pangani Police Station. He said the police were being used to harass him in a bid to take over the property and that his son was caught up in the incident when he came to his rescue.

Gikunji said that he had filed a number of complaints at Pangani Police Station before the alleged robbery, which he claims the police took no action.

The caretaker and his son were released on a free bond, awaiting review of the charges against them.
