The Ministry of Lands headed by CS Farida Karoney has reopened Ngong Land Registry, after it was shut down in November 2020 after a raid by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission officers.

The registry, which is among the busiest in the country, has also undergone a facelift as the ministry moved to weed out rampant fraud and corruption in the registry.

Speaking to Kenyans.co.ke, a representative from the Ministry noted that the filing system, which was one of the causes of the confusion in the registry, has been re-organised for effective service to the public.

"I think it was closed for eight weeks. There were some renovations that were supposed to happen because the registry was in a very pathetic condition.

"There were also some installations that were supposed to be done and there was also the re-organisation of the filing system which was a mess. The filing system is better now and the place is neat," stated the official.

The registry now has a customer service bay and a spacious lobby.

The EACC had stormed the registry and arrested 14 individuals accused of engaging in unethical practice at the facility.

During the raid, the detectives recovered fake title deeds, stamps and an unspecified amount of cash.

After its closure, there was an outcry from the public following increase fraudulent activities by conmen which cost them millions of money.

“Land issues are now becoming a thorny issue, threatening the economy of this county.

"The country has put stringent measures to curb the fraud but cartels are still devising ways of defrauding people," stated Kajido land CEC, Hamilton Parseina at the time.

After the arrests were made, Kajiado county commissioner, Joshua Nkanatha confirmed that some of the cartels attempted to interfere with the case through judicial officers.
