The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) - a party associated with Deputy President William Ruto - is set to make changes to its senior leadership.
In a gazette notice on Friday, March 19, the party indicated its intention to replace the current Secretary-General Mohamed A Sahal with Nduati Veronicah Waheti.
Additional posts created by the party are Secretary for International Affairs for which Hussein Adan Somo has been nominated for the position while Kamau Edward Muriu is set to become the Secretary for Devolution and Intergovernmental Relations.
The party also showed its intention to change the location of the head office from Transnational Plaza to Sifa Towers in Kilimani, Nairobi.
"Any person with written submissions concerning the intended changes by the political parties shall within seven (7) days from the date of this publication, deposit them with the Registrar of Political Parties," the Registrar of Political Parties Ann Nderitu stated.
In January 2021, Nderitu confirmed that the party had changed its name from the Party of Development and Reform (PDR).
The party has since taken part in a number of by-elections in the country. In the much-contested Matungu by-election earlier in March, the party's candidate, Alex Lanya came in third behind ANC's candidate Peter Nabulindo who won after garnering 14,260 votes.
In the Kabuchai, parliamentary by-election, Ford Kenya's Majimbo Kalasinga beat UDA candidate Evans Kaikai.
The UDA party however clinched the London Ward seat with Antony Nzuki securing 1,707 votes against Jubilee's Francis Njoroge who came second with 1385 votes.
On Friday, March 19, UDA'sUrbanus Ngengele lost to Agnes Kavindu Muthama after the Independent Electoral & Boundaries Commission (IEBC) announced her as the winner in the just-concluded Machakos Senate seat.
Kavindu garnered 104,080 votes - far ahead of her closest competitor, Ngengele who had 19,705 votes.
The campaigns were heated pitting Johnson Muthama's candidate against his ex-wife. Muthama is the chairman of UDA which is popularly known as the wheelbarrow party.
