The Kenya Urban  Road Authority (KURA) has issued a notice over the intended closure of a section of Nairobi's Kikuyu Road for two months.

In a statement on Saturday, March 20, the roads agency stated that the road would be closed near the junction to Dagoretti high school as the construction workers undertake maintenance works.

"We wish to notify the general public that there will be traffic disruption along the Kikuyu Road section starting from Thursday, March 25, 2021, to Monday, May 24, 2021 (60 days). This is to allow the installation of a box culvert along Kikuyu Road," KURA noted.

The road serves a number of residents as it connects Dagoretti Market Kikuyu to Kawangware area.

The construction works involve installing a box culvert, which is a bridge-like structure designed to allow vehicle or pedestrian traffic to cross over the waterway while allowing adequate passage for the water.

Drainage plays a crucial role in road construction and maintenance. There are many types of culverts but, box culverts are the most commonly found type due to the strength of the concrete floor.

In lieu of the disruption, motorists have been advised to use alternative routes as well as follow traffic marshalls' directions.

"We apologise for inconveniences that may be caused as we endeavour to provide an efficient urban road network," the roads agency noted.

KURA is currently undertaking road works in various roads in Nairobi. In February 2021, it issued a notice over the temporary closure of a section of Peponi Road.

The roads agency cautioned motorists over ongoing road works on the road that would take three months to complete.

"There will be traffic disruption along Peponi Road section starting from Tuesday, March 2, 2021 to Wednesday, June 2, 2021," KURA stated.
