Political analyst Herman Manyora has challenged President Uhuru Kenyatta to suspend the upcoming 2022 General Elections.
In a video he shared on Saturday, March 21, Manyora argued that the country was not in a position to hold a major election unless drastic changes are made before the due date.
The fiery analyst argued that the country was ridden by two major challenges including the third wave of Covid-19 virus and the constantly deteriorating economy.
"Today I engage you, and try to show you, that we ought, and in fact we must, and we should, postpone the 2022 elections. This is a serious thing to do," stated Manyora.
Regarding the economy, Manyora argued that it was at its worst ever with money needed to service debts every year constituting a huge chunk of the annual budget by the Ministry of Treasury.
"This country is doing so badly in the matters of the economy. You cannot have an army made of educated young men without jobs. Those who have jobs are earning monies that cannot even put food on the table.
"You cannot have a country where over 50% go to be hungry and living below Ksh 100 a day. You can't have the unemployment rates we have. You can't have the cost of this we have. You can't have petrol being increased whimsically and say you have a country," stated Magoha.
He noted that the country raises roughly Ksh1.7 trillion through taxes as budget and needs to pay Ksh1.2 trillion to service debts.
He further argued that the balance of Ksh 600 billion "which is barely enough for the national expenditure. Recurrent, not even development. Just paying salaries and wages."
He also noted that the third wave of the Covid-19 virus had come back stronger and hinted that the country needed time to tackle the pandemic, including suspension of all political activities.
"The third wave shows us, this thing can get ugly. Therefore, I beseech fellow countrymen, let us postpone the 2022 General Elections and concentrate on trying to do something about our economy.
"Giving attention to this disease that can ravage us to nothing, because you want to be President in 2022, but the people may not be there. This thing is not even sparing the leaders," he warned.
He further argued that politicians were superspreaders and unless the elections are suspended, the politicos would not see the suffering of their people.
He also explained that the rampant theft of public resources had increased as politicos try to secure funding for the campaign activities. The money would instead be channeled to healthcare system when elections are put on hold.
In an earlier radio interview, Uhuru claimed that the country lost Ksh2 billion to corruption every day. The economy, on the other hand, has continued to deteriorate despite predictions marking 2021 as the year of rebound.
