Susan Njeri will now fly the Jubilee flag in Juja Constituency by-elections after emerging winner in the party primaries held on Saturday March 20.

Njeri garnered 1596 votes against her closest rival Joseph Ng'ang'a who garnered 898 votes, with Naftali Rugara, a Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) student, emerging third with only 669 votes

Low voter turnout, bribery allegations missing of voters in the IEBC register and harassment of presiding officers claims marred the elections.

The Juja constituency by-election is slated for Tuesday May 18, 2021.

Addressing the media after her win, Njeri thanked the voters who took part in the exercise for helping her win the party ticket.

“I want to thank my supporters for making this day a success and making me a winner,'' she said after the win.

On March 19, Njeri received a double boost from senior Kiambu Kenya Post-Primary Education Teachers Union (Kuppet) and Kenya Women Teachers Association (Kewota) branch officials who vowed to throw their weight behind her ahead of Saturday’s nomination exercise.

During the final sendoff of the late MP, Jude Njomo, the MP for Kiambu Town had proposed that Susan Waititu, the late MP’s wife, be given a chance to complete the work that her husband had started.

The seat fell vacant after the demise of Francis Munyua Waititu, alias wakapee, who succumbed to brain cancer at MP Shah Hospital on Monday 22.

The family of the lawmaker issued a statement confirming the demise of the legislator to cancer.

“It with deep sorrow that we announce the Passing on of our Loving Dad Francis Waititu. May his soul Rest in Eternal Peace and may God grant him the divine grace,” said the statement.

President Uhuru Kenyatta sent a message of condolence to the family, relatives and residents of Juja constituency following the MP's death.

"We've sadly lost a very progressive, trusted and committed leader whose public actions always reflected the interests of his constituents.

"It is because of the trust and love that the people of Juja had for Hon Waititu that they entrusted him with a second term in a very competitive election despite his illness," the President said.

Waititu previously worked for the Kenyatta family in their farming ventures around Ruiru town before venturing into politics.
