Education Cabinet Secretary George Magoha on Monday, March 22 ordered that the media will not be allowed to access exam centers and schools for the coverage of the KCPE and KCSE examinations.
According to Siaya Director of Education Nelson Sifuna, the order given by Magoha aims at curbing the spread of Covid-19 by limiting the number of people accessing the centers.
Sifuna divulged that Magoha had ordered them not to release any information about the ongoing examinations.
“Kindly don’t take any photos or video clips. We were warned by our boss Prof Magoha through this text message,” Sifuna said.
Sifuna also issued a directive to the police officers and invigilators tasked with supervising exams to ensure that the candidates do not cheat during the examinations.
"I want you to take this year's exams seriously. There are elaborate measures put in place by the ministry,” he added.
KCPE examinations kicked off on Monday for 1,191,725 candidates in 28,467 examination centers.
Magoha and all key stakeholders within the education sector have arrived at examination centers to ensure the process kicks off smoothly.
"Integrity of the examination process shall remain unquestionable. The government will very firmly deal with participants of examination fraud. No child should be denied to sit the examinations," Magoha stated while supervising the opening of exam papers at Kianjau Primary School in Kiambu County.
Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC) Chairman, Professor John Onsati reiterated Magoha's sentiments saying that there would be no leakage within the exam period.
”The examination is intact. We are here to advise examination center managers and security personnel deployed to ensure that all papers are secure,” Onsati stated.
