Kiambu County Police Commander Ali Nuno has sounded a warning to employers as President Uhuru Kenyatta's revised curfew takes effect.

Speaking while inspecting a roadblock in the county on the night of Saturday, March 27, Nuno asked employers to release workers on time to beat the current 8 p.m. curfew effected in five counties.

He further noted that the police force would not be lenient to individuals caught breaking curfew no matter what the reasons would be.

Nuno further challenged the companies operating for 24 hours to provide proper transport for the employees to avoid an unnecessary brush with the law.

"I want to appeal to the employers, they are keeping the employees at the workplace till late in the evening. According to orders, by 8 p.m., curfew will take effect.

"People are taking long to travel back home. I am asking the employers to release their employees in good time so that they can meet the deadline," he stated.

Hundreds of people were arrested on Saturday night after they were caught by authorities in violation of the curfew in Kiambu and Nairobi Counties.

Some Kenyans were caught by the deadline and had to spend the night inside their cars and matatus waiting for daybreak.

Videos showing the police officers manhandling the suspects emerged across the five counties which have recently recorded high positivity rates in the last couple of months.

The counties include Nairobi, Nakuru, Kiambu, Machakos, and Kajiado. 23 people were arrested in Kiambu County alone while boda bodas and vehicles were impounded.

Kenyans have until Sunday, March 28, 8 p.m. to get into or leave the five counties whose cessation of movement order will last until it is revised by the state.
