The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI)'s investigations on the murder of National Lands Commission (NLC)'s official Jennifer Wambua took a new twist after detectives retrieved her bank transactions.
The DCI team found that Ksh2 million was withdrawn from the bank accounts of Jennifer Wambua two days before she went missing.
The sleuths further established that the money had been sent to the deceased by her employer, the NLC, to pay for supplies of goods and services offered during the commission launch of the 2021-2026 strategic plan.
Wambua was in charge of the launch of the strategic plan which was commissioned on March 5.
However, the suppliers are yet to paid and now the detectives are trying to ascertain whether Wambua’s death was linked to the money.
The new angle emerged just as the family had announced that its hopes of getting justice were dwindling after the probe team made no substantial links in the first two weeks of the investigation.
Initial reports had indicated that Wambua could have been murdered because she was a key witness in a Ksh122 million graft case.
Nairobi Chief magistrate, Francis Andayi on March 18 allowed the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) request to suspend the hearing of the case until Wambua’s death was unraveled.
Wambua had failed to show up in court twice when she was scheduled to testify and she was set to be cross-examined by the defense lawyers before she was murdered.
“On the first occasion, she had come to court to be cross-examined but she suddenly became ill. On the second date, she was still not available,” the magistrate said.
The deceased was a witness in a case where Lugari Member of Parliament (MP) Ayub Savula and former information Permanent Secretary, Sammy Itemere, are facing charges of stealing Ksh122.3 million from the Government Advertising Agency (GAA).
An autopsy conducted on the deceased at the Montezuma Monalisa funeral home reveals that she died of strangulation by hands.
Her body was found in a thicket in Ngong area on March 13 hours after she was reported to be missing.
