The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of The BrickHouse Counsel and daughter of Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader, Winnie Odinga, on Thursday, April 8, was a guest on Spice FM when a caller called and accused her of being out of reality with the lives of ordinary Kenyans.
“We are asking questions to someone who can actually not answer. I do not think that she knows what it means to work, we have to do away with dynasty families.
“This is because they do not know the problems that we have down here and therefore there is no way they can give us a solution. It is ridiculous that we are doing mistakes over and over again,” the caller who was identified as Charity said.
Winnie who has in the past been very vocal about the political situation in the country responded by saying that her family had endured a lot for the sake of the country.
“I do not believe she can be talking about me when we talk about dynasties. I do not believe that we can talk about Jaramogi Odinga in the worst place in this country in Haller park and Raila Odinga following with eight years in detention.
“I do not know that she knows the life I have lived with policemen surrounding my house and guns to my head. I do not believe she knows the floors I have slept in, floors my mother has slept in, my siblings have slept in for this country and I do not expect her to know. I do not believe it is correct to judge a story when you do not know the whole story,” Winnie said.
Winnie went on to add that none of her family members were elected leaders. She however noted that she lobbied in her own personal capacity in order to achieve political change.
On Wednesday, April 7, The BrickHouse CEO called out Nairobi Member of Parliaments (MPs) for not doing the work they were supposed to do.
“The three jobs of an MP are representing the people, oversight institutions, and legislating on behalf of the people. There is not a single MP in the 12th parliament that has taken any one of these jobs seriously. This city is drowning in filth both metaphorically and literally,” Winnie wrote on Twitter.
In order to get change, Winnie had earlier on hired women in Kilimani to sweep the roads, slash grass along the streets and collect litter but they were arrested due to lack of licences.
The dynasty term has been used in reference to wealthy families that have monopolised the political space in Kenya for generations.
