The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) has announced a new venue for motor vehicle owners seeking inspection services but cannot access the Nairobi and Thika Inspection Centres due to travel restrictions.

The safety authority on Thursday, April 8, stated that motorists who were locked out of the one-zoned area (Nairobi, Machakos, Kajiado, Kiambu and Nakuru) could now access the service within Murang'a county.

"The Authority will hold weekly (every Friday) Motor vehicle inspection at the Ministry of Transport and infrastructure Mechanical and Transport Division Yard, along Murang'a-Sagana Road next to Huhi Fuel station," NTSA advised.

Motorists were advised to access the service by making a booking through the Transport Integrated Management System (TIMS) account and select any available date in the system.

NTSA directed those booking to select the Thika Inspection Centre as the location on the portal.

Anyone who has successfully been booked for an inspection can access the service from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

At the same time, smart driving license services will continue being offered at the Murang'a Huduma Centres every Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

"As we endeavour to offer the services, we urge our clients to adhere to the measures put in place to prevent the spread of the Coronavirus.

"For more enquiries, reach us through info@ntsa.go.ke, the Free NTSA App or our WhatsApp No. 0797556354 (No Calls)," the communications unit advised.

The booking fee for an annual inspection of a vehicle is Ksh 1,750.

Booking for a motor inspection is valid for 14 days and if it lapses before you present your vehicle for inspection, you will be forced to book afresh.

At the yard, the inspectors check for the vehicle and driver information, car exterior and interior, the engine status, chassis, tires, batteries, brakes, steering and suspension, safety lights, windshield, wipers, fluid levels, belts, hoses and the exhaust pipe.
