Nairobi politician Ibrahim Johnny Ahmed has passed on.

Reports reaching our news desk indicate that Ahmed died on Friday morning, April 9, at Coptic Hospital in Nairobi. 

“Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji’un It is with deep regret and sadness that we inform you of the passing away of our brother Ibrahim Ahmed Yusuf alias Johnny, the Deputy Secretary-General of Jamia Mosque. May Allah forgive him, have mercy on him and grant him Jannatul Firdaus," Jamia mosque in Nairobi stated.

ODM party confirmed the politician's demise and indicated that he had been battling kidney problems for years.

"As a party, we appreciate the time we shared together and the ideas he gave. We pray for his soul to RIP," reads a statement in part.

The deceased, who was also the Deputy Secretary-General of the Jamia Mosque, will be laid rest later today (Friday) in line with Muslim traditions at the Lang'ata Cemetery at 12pm.

Condolence messages have streamed in for the fallen politician, with many terming him as an active and honest leader.

"Terribly heart broken by the sad news of my brother 's demise. We share a WhatsApp group where our friend was active up till 9.30pm or so. Didn't know he may have been unwell. Always very active, frank in expressing self, friendly. May your Soul find Peace, Ndugu!" Silas Jakakimba stated.

"A good Muslim. A community leader. A brother. My friend. My Allah grant Ibrahim Ahmed (Johnny) Jannah. We spoke 2 days ago. He was doing very well. His usual positive vibe," Eastleigh businessman Ahmed Mohamed noted.
