Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Peter Munya has opened up on his relationship with DP William Ruto disclosing that they only interact during cabinet meetings at State House.
Speaking in an interview on NTV, the CS who in 2019 was accused of hosting a meeting to plan the assassination of the DP, stated that since the incident the relationship with the DP has been reduced to professional engagements.
"We (referring to the DP) have not spoken for a while. We all meet in a work setting and I have only spoken to him during Cabinet meetings," the former Meru Governor disclosed.
On the meetings at the La Mada hotel, CS Munya maintained that the allegations that saw him together with counterparts Sicily Kariuki and Joe Mucheru (ICT) appear at the DCI headquarters to record statements were falsified.
"The claims were never justified and the matter ended. It was all politics," he disclosed.
Munya has hosted the meetings as recently as January 2021 which he said were held to enhance service delivery by the government to the Mt Kenya region.
They resolved to form a committee led by the two co-chairs to discuss economic empowerment of the Mt Kenya people through agriculture.
In 2019, during the period when the meetings attracted public attention, it is said that the president asked the cabinet secretaries to stop holding the meetings.
CS Munya however denied the reports adding that they had actually intensified their discussions.
The CS added that they had devolved their gatherings to counties and sub-counties.
"Our meetings continue. We are intensifying them. Nobody has stopped us. We are cascading issues of development to counties and sub-counties to know the exact situation on the ground, for instance where the water projects have reached," stated Munya.
Weeks after the assassination allegations, CS Munya and DP Ruto were both in attendance during the opening of the Kenya Trade Week and Expo 2019 at the KICC.
